Back at home

We were able to pick Sissy up from the Vet Wednesday and she was so happy to see us and even happier to be back home. She is still confined to her crate and will have to be for the next few weeks. She still isn't walking but is showing signs of muscle tone in her back legs and will support her weight on her back legs. 3 times a day I have to do some exercise therapy and she seems to be doing better with it. Her attitude is that nothing happened and she still wants to go go go so that is a plus.

The other dogs want to be near her, but I have to keep them away in case they jump on her and hurt her staples. I'm hoping to see some definite feeling back by at least a month and walking within 3 weeks. Time will tell.

I had a good Friday-I got the $3,000 check that I won from Digital Insights in the mail and I'm expecting to see the $1200 that I won from Albertson's in next week!

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!

Moments...

William Hoffman is a New York filmmaker who put this video together and uploaded it last August. It’s finally getting some viral activity, and rightfully so. It’s “a celebration of life that was inspired by David Eagleman’s book, Sum.”

I do enjoy a perfectly realized edit, and this one’s full of them. Via Neatorama

A great win!

I got a call today that I won $1200 from Albertson's!!! That, added with the $3,000 from Digital Insights in October will make for a wonderful holiday season!!

Work work and more work

I had a long week with 3 events we had at work. Friday I worked from 10Am to 11:30Pm mostly on my feet running around. I slept a lot this weekend recovering-40 has caught up with me.

I have a few projects I need to get done around the house and just keep putting them off. Oliver has kept me busy, running around like he has fed on jet fuel.

Oliver won't take the hint from Petey that he doesn't want him chewing on his ears and keeps on bugging him. The first week, he bit Petey's "grapes" and Petey's has been on guard ever since. Oliver spends all of his spare time humping on Taylor. Taylor is so laid back he just lays there and yawns. It has been nice having a puppy around, he is a cutie and I fell in love the first day!

I took a few pictures recently, I'll upload them this week.

I've finally started winning a few things again-I went through a long dry spell for a few months and have won another Nintendo Wii system that has some kind of Star Wars party pack with it-all valued at $600!! That added with about $200 in gift cards and smaller prizes has me energized again so I have been more excited about entering every night.

My desktop computer crashed a few weeks ago, so I splurged and got another Dell. It is really nice and I validated the purchase saying it was my birthday present to myself! I probably could have gotten away from having a desktop and just used the laptop, but I didn't come to that realization until it was too late to take it back!

After the computer crash I switched from Microsoft Outlook to Mozilla's Thunderbird. After a few days of playing around with it and configuring it, I like it so much better than Outlook. It's faster and easier to configure. Like Firefox you can install add-ons as well, which is nice.

Rick just got one of those small netbook computers and they are better than I had thought. It has Windows XP and a 160Gb hard drive and the small keyboard isn't hard to type on than I thought it would be.

A local builder has donated a house to benefit The Myelin Project and they are selling 3900 tickets at $50 each. Then they randomly draw 100 tickets from those 3900 and have a reverse drawing and the last ticket wins! I have got three so far and might get two more before the deadline. I don't know how I would react if I won a house-I hope I find out!!! I also heard that a local furniture company is donating furniture as well!

I hope everyone has a great week :)

Close call!

Rotten Tomatoes had a twitter poem contest and although I didn't win, I was one of the 20 finalists! The winner got a trip to the premiere of a new film called Paper Hearts.

It was a hard poem to write, you had to do it with your twitter account and you could only use 140 characters! Mine is listed as jefftexas88 on this list.

Follow me on twitter if you have an account over there.

Bird news

Earlier today I found my dog Taylor holding a bird in his mouth. I got it away from him and it died before I could figure out how to get it back in the nest.

The nest is in an odd place up in my eaves where I can't quite get my hand through. A little later I went out in the yard and noticed the dogs were focused on that area again. I heard some chirping but couldn't see anything. I went around to the other side of the fence and found another one! He was feisty and hidden amidst the wisteria.

I picked him up, deciding to try to see if I could find some place to take it and give it a chance rather than leave it to become cat food.

I couldn't find any place so far and then found some websites that gave information on how to feed baby birds.

So far so good.

He has eaten a few times with the food I made up and has a full gullet and is asleep at the moment. Hopefully when Rick gets off work tomorrow he can make some calls and find someone that knows more of what they are doing to take him.

On a sad note, the barn swallow babies who were in the hanging geranium basket met a sad end. When I was going to work one day last week I noticed a bunch of geranium leaves on the porch and looked in the basket and they were all gone. Rick noticed later a cat hanging around looking for more.

I guess the cat had made its way up the porch railing and got them. Hopefully the cat cannot get to the babies that are higher up in their nests. I won't be hanging any baskets on that hook anymore just in case.

From the past

Here are some pictures from the past of me, my parents, my brother and sister, my grandfather and my great grandfather.

Paris, France 1994

I borrowed an old photo album and scanned some pictures out of them. I found these that I took in Paris in 1994, pictures of me and my family. The last picture I took in black and white looks so eerie when you click on it and make it full sized!
