Saying goodbye to an old friend

I had to put my dachsund Rudy to sleep today. He turned 13 in October. He was just tired and worn out with too many odds against him. It was full circle-the day I got him years ago he fell asleep in my arms on the way home and he did the same thing today. May a thousand angels be dancing around you right now. Sleep well old friend.

Its sad but I don't know if I can have another animal again. Putting Missy down was a bit easier because I had Boots Jay to keep me company. We really developed a bond after that. I had him 13 years! We never had any animal that long.

Putting him down almost killed me though. I kept looking for ways to go with him. I found him when I was 16. He's been through just about everything with me. Suddenly he's not here and I'm ... what? What am I? What am I supposed to do now? Who will love me? Etc...

I thought we'd go together. It sounds odd but... I just thought we'd go together.

I don't think I can do that again.

But you still have Rudy and Petey and another on the way?? It doesn't replace the loss but it will ease some of the pain.

And even if it doesn't; honey you are going to be sooo busy keeping up on the dog hair. I know you!

Umm, just a side note: Vega had her puppies... 7!
They spent all this time breeding her with papered boxers and who is the dad??? The unpapered boxer we didn't think was old enough... the little pound puppy they brought home a few months ago!

I guess they'll try it again next year. =)

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's never easy, even when you know it's coming, even when you know it's the humane thing to do. But at least you can say that, like my Noodle, your friend had a good run. - Karen
